About Us

Navoday Foundation is founded by Purna Chetry, who was inspired by the journey of development work of many individuals and social organizations across Assam. With the exposure Purna decided to work in his native district at Baksa to bring a social change with the most backward communities who are deprived from their basic rights and entitlements. Navoday Foundation began it journey as a voluntary organization in December 2016. It was registered as a Society on 7 December 2016 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The broad theme of Navoday Foundation is to strengthen rural livelihoods amongst the most marginalized in the community. Navoday Foundation took up promotion of scientific mushroom cultivation as a sub-sector to strengthen the livelihoods of rural women in a focused manner. The idea was to integrate the mushroom value due to its available market locally and inside Bhutan. To integrate the demand supply chain Navoday Foundation helped rural women to understand its Package of Practices (PoPs) through trainings and exposures. To help the women farmers Navoday Foundation promoted a Producer Organization (PO) to increase their power to bargain and reach scale of business. Till now Navoday Foundation has brought 1200 numbers of women mushroom farmers under its fold.

Navoday Foundation in future will endeavor to intensify the engagement with the mushroom farmers giving coverage to form a large mushroom cluster with 2-5 numbers of Producer Organizations inside Baksa district with a replicating effect. Collaborations will for convergence with different agencies will be hallmark of its approach.
